Irene married Paul Franklin Davis at Brainerd, Minnesota on December 17m 1939. To this union seven children were born.
Irene was very talented and artistic. At one time she started to learn to play the mandolin but came down with an infection that affected her inner ear. From then on she couldn’t carry a tune, but it didn’t stop her from singing while she worked. She had a very positive and cheery attitude most of the time.
Irene became involved in the Civil Air Patrol and during the Atomic Bomb scares she was appointed to travel to California and get training in radiology and Civil Defense so she could help organize her community to protect themselves if needed. She was every involved in the Minnesota Dairy Goat Association, raising her own goats and was instrumental in getting testing for Bangs disease in goat milk. For a long time Irene had her own house-sitting and child-sitting business and was known as Rent-a-Grandma.
She loved gardening and hated wasting things, so when the tire planter’ phase was in high gear, she grew an amazing garden in her yard completely in tires. She was featured in The Mother Earth News magazine with her Tired Garden pictures and a demo on how to cut the tires.
Irene was also an avid fisher-woman. Every winter found her out in her little aluminum dark spear house and she was usually very successful with her spearing efforts.
Irene had a Christian radio show call the Rock a Bye Lady that aired on WWJC in Duluth, KTIG in Pequot Lakes, and radio stations in Boone, IA, and Rapid City, SD.
Irene loved her grandchildren and would always have interesting things for them to do usually something involving nature or crafts. Her most favorite things to do was to study the Bible and visit with her friends or write letters. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Greetings to Irene’s family: Irene was a special person; she will be missed. I met Irene in July 2007 so only had a chance to know her the last several months of her life and I quickly came to treasure her, even though sometimes she had no idea who I was. Reading her obituary made me smile at all the things she did, recognizing her spirit and some of the stories she told me about her long full life. It was a pleasure to brighten her day when bringing her lilacs and flowers from my garden; she most always had a ready smile, except on really tough days. It is a real pleasure to know more of her from what is written here and that she was a vibrant person with so many interest who has lived a full life. I will warmly remember your spirit Irene, and the prayers and healing tears we shared with July 2007. Rest in peace Irene.
