Lila Marie (Olson) Moen, of Mora, Minnesota passed away on February 11, 2009 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. She was 85 years old.
Lila was born on October 27, 1923 in Manchester, Minnesota to Bernard and Bertha (Rasmusson) Olson. She spent her youth there going to school, helping out on the family farm and with her four younger siblings. It was in Albert Lea, Minnesota that she met Alvin Moen, and they married on February 21, 1940. They lived in southern Minnesota and over the years were blessed with three children, Richard, Darlene, and Dean. They moved to Mora in October of 1958 and purchased a farm. Lila enjoyed working the land, not just for the farming, but also for the beauty. She loved the beauty of flowers and over the years created many gardens around her farm. She found there were other women with the same love for gardening, and helped to create the Mora Garden Club. She was an active member of the club for over forty years and accumulated an abundance of ribbons for her flower arrangements.
Lila had other hobbies as well. She loved to bake, can vegetables, sew, macram, and especially to paint. Each of her children and grandchildren have received gifts of her beautiful paintings and quilts. Lila also loved to spend time with those she loved. She always welcomed visitors with a smile, and usually some cookies.
Lila worked at the Sportsman’s Caf as a waitress for many years. She was a dedicated and tireless worker, and even after putting in a full day you could often find her in the kitchen baking or preparing a meal, in her gardens weeding, or out in the field bringing in the cows.
Lila was a woman with a warm smile, an abundance of patience, a wonderful mother, an attentive grandmother, and a caring friend. She was a woman who loved deeply and was loved just as deeply by many. We will all miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Mary and Valda; her brother Lloyd; her husband of 68 years Alvin; her son Dean; and her son-in-law Jerry.
Lila is survived by her children Richard (Beverly), and Darlene Olson all of Mora; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister Millie Lindroff; her brother Milt Olson; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services held Saturday, Feb. 14th at Calvary Lutheran Church. Rev. Dean Oelfke officiated. Music provided by Deb Menze and Ronda Willows. Pallbearers were Lila’s grandsons Dan Gustafson, Brent Greenberg, Danny Peterson, Josh Hanson, Tony Mieloch and Jacob Moen. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
