Hector LaDouceur, of Duluth, formerly of Mora, died on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 in Duluth. He was 88 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 24th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora. VISITATION will be 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. INTERMENT will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mora.
Hector LaDouceur passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Franciscan Health Center in Duluth, Minnesota, at the age of 88 years.
He was born to Edward and Rose Alba (Poirier) LaDouceur in Rollete County, North Dakota on January 28, 1920.
At age two, the family moved to Chicago, Illinois where they lived until Hector was 11 years old. In August 1931 the family moved to a farm in Knife Lake Township near Mora. He attended country school through eighth grade after which he worked on the family farm. He loved working with his horses.
On July 27, 1946 he was united in marriage to Virginia Norman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora, Minnesota. They were the parents of one daughter.
Hector was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Mora. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather; and dearly loved spending time with his grandson. He was kind, gentle and a man of much patience.
He worked at the Farmer’s Coop for several years, after which he worked at Land-O-Lakes Ice Cream until retirement in 1982. He and Virginia moved to Duluth, Minnesota in 2005 to be near their daughter.
He enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Canada, enjoyed gardening, woodworking, was an excellent carpenter, building a home and several buildings on the farm. He was always making things of all descriptions and could fix anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Roseanne; and brother Maurice. Hector is survived by his wife Virginia; daughter Mary (Michael) Connolly of Superior, Wisconsin; grandson James (Alexa) Connolly of Oroville, Washington; sister Faye (Bruno) Jarvis of Golden Valley, Minnesota; brothers Omer (Betty) of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Joseph (Louise) of Omak, Washington, George (Marian) of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 24 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora. Fr. Eugene Plaisted and Rita Clasemann officiated. Music was provided for by Kris Paulson, Jean Mork and members of St. Mary’s Choir. Pallbearers were Kenneth Jarvis, Michael LaDouceur, Steve Gieseke, Beth Gieseke, Mark Osterdyk and Sandra Norman. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cementery in Mora.
