A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Stanchfield Baptist Church with Pastor Dale Cope presiding. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service at the church. INTERMENT will be in the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery.

Ardelle Christenson was born October 24, 1921 in Stanchfield, Minnesota to Peter and Cora Okerlund. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1938. On November 29, 1941 she married Bert Christenson and they made their home on a dairy farm in the Stanchfield area, where she remained until her death.

Besides working hard as a farmer’s wife, she also worked outside the home. During the 1960’s, Ardelle worked part-time in the Braham Bible Bookstore and in Melvin Christenson’s Grocery Store in Stanchfield. From 1968 to 1984 she worked as a clerk and Assistant Postmaster in the Stanchfield Post Office. Since retiring from the Post Office, she was able to spend more time tending to her flowers, vegetable gardening, and caring for her many backyard birds and other wildlife.

Ardelle has attended the Stanchfield Baptist Church since childhood, and has been a member of the church since 1933. She served in many capacities including Sunday School Teacher and Deaconess. She highly treasured her family, her church, and the many friends she has made throughout the years.

Ardelle passed away on January 17, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 24 days.

She is survived by her daughter Phyllis of Stanchfield; son Wayne and wife Gigi of Minnetonka; grandchildren Laura (David) Kral of Loretto Minnesota, and Steve (Stefanie) Christenson of Minneapolis; great-grandchildren Savanah and Mikayla Kral, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; her parents, Peter and Cora Okerlund; and her brother and sister-in-law, Burton and Sylvia Okerlund.

  1. I and my children (Kathy, Keith, Rachel) all have sweet memories of visiting Uncle Bert and Auntie Ardelle many times at the farm in Stanchfield. They were great host and hostess and always interested in knowing about our lives. Their flowers and gardens were a beautiful sight!

When my late husband (Hartley Christenson) and I were missionaries in the Philippines, they would write to us and send generous Christmas gift checks.

Most importantly, they were always good prayer warriors. We’ve missed Uncle Bert since his passing and now we’ll miss Aunt Ardelle too! What a joy to know they are enjoying Jesus together once again.

    With love, Marlene

  2. Phyllis, Wayne and Gigi, we want to tell you how sorry we are over the passing of your Mother. It is always difficult to accept, especially when she was so loved by all. She was the sweetest lady we knew and we loved her so much. You all will be in our prayers and thoughts, Glenn and Joanie
