MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 14th at the Kingdom Hall of Johovah’s Witness in Mora. INTERMENT will be in the spring at Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.

Marian Emma (Schoumaker) Chandler, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on January 11, 2009 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. She was 89 years old.

Marian was born December 4, 1919 at home in Kanabec township, Ogilvie, Minnesota to Herman Sr. and LeLa (Steeves) Schoumaker. She grew up on the farm, the oldest of 9 siblings, and attended country school through the 8th grade.

She met Chester (Pete) Chandler at a dance and they were married October 31, 1935 in Mora. To this union 5 children were born. She worked at several jobs through the years and helped with the farm work, retiring from Fingerhut in Mora.

She enjoyed the outdoors, working in her yard. Marian’s hobbies included crocheting rugs, making stuffed animals and quilts. She enjoyed her family and made several trips to Florida to visit her oldest son and his family. Marian was a loving mother and grandmother. We will all miss her.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; one brother Ben Schoumaker; and three sisters, Louise Owens, Lucille Richardson and Bertha DeWitt; daughter-in-law Sally Chandler and son-in-law Mike Jones.

Marian is survived by sons, Clark of Spring Hill, FL, and Ron of Moose Lake, MN; daughters, Jean (Dick) Hathaway of Blaine, MN, Sheryl (Lee) Sundstrom of Isanti, MN and Arlene Jones of Stewart, MN; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; two brothers Herman Schoumaker Jr. of Mora, and Alfred (Janice) Schoumaker of CA; two sisters YaVonne (Cliff) Polfuss of Mora, and Ruth Schoumaker of Mora; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service held on Wednesday, January 14 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Mora. Patrick Soder officiated. Interment will be in the spring at Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.

  1. Marian was a dear person and we will miss her greatly. Her cheery disposition and cute smile were always there, and it is sad to have her gone. But her hope of a resurrection through the study of the Bible is our hope too, and we know we will be able to see her again in the very near future. Our heartfelt sympathy to the family.
