j-kapaun-web.jpgJames Kapaun, of Mora, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Kanabec County Hospital of Mora. He was 80 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Thursday, December 4th, 11:00 AM at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora. VISITATION will be on Wednesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home. INTERMENT will be at Fish Lake Cemetery.

James A. Kapaun, age 80, of Mora, Minnesota died on November 30, 2008.

Jim was born on September 16, 1928 in Humboldt, South Dakota, the son of Jack and Florence (O’Brien) Kapaun. In his adult life he was a U.S Army Veteran and a top chef while in the service of his country. He was employed for many years as a bricklayer in Minneapolis, but he also worked as a custodian for 17 years at the Hennepin Housing Development.

He was a good fisherman and able golfer, plus a wonderful story teller. He was proud of his Irish heritage. He will be missed for his kind and generous ways.

Jim was preceded in death by both parents; his wife Rosie; son Greg; and brothers Frank and Ralph.

He is survived by his beloved companion Joyce Munkberg of Mora; brother Florenz (Kathryn) Kapaun of Marshalltown, Iowa; sister Joann (Jim) Hines of Gladstone, Missouri; grandchildren Jason and Jessie Kapaun; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 4th at Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora. Rita Clasemann officiated. Pallbearers were Don Overson, Gene Bratsch, Tim Olson, Steve Kapaun, Mark Kapaun and Mike Kapaun. Interment was at Fish Lake Cemetery.

  2. Our deepest sympathy goes out to your family in the loss of Jim. Lawrence and I will surely miss his visits to South Dakota. We remember him as our younger cousin as Lawrence is 95 and I am 97. We were saddened to hear of his death and sorry that we were unable to attend his funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love,
