Alvin Clarence Moen, of Mora, passed away on October 27, 2008 at the Villa Rehab in Mora. He was 92 years old.

Alvin was born on May 29, 1916 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Soren and Caia (Johnson) Moen. He was raised there on his family farm and attended a country school where his mother was the schoolteacher. He worked on his dad’s dairy farm and delivered milk to local business’. It was through his deliveries that he met Lila Olson. Alvin and Lila married on February 21, 1940 and lived in southern Minnesota. It was there that they were blessed with three children, Richard, Darlene, and Dean. They moved to Mora in October of 1958 and purchased a farm. Alvin enjoyed the hard work and dedication that went into farming, and loved his pigs. He also took pleasure in exploring the side of farming that was different or unique and it became his hobby; raising exotic chickens, growing giant or unusual varieties of pumpkins, gourds, and Indian corn just for fun.

Alvin was an enthusiastic member of Calvary Lutheran Church for almost fifty years. His mother asked him, before her passing when he was twelve, to study his Commandments and read his Bible every day. Alvin did, every day without exception, until his sight no longer allowed it.

He also had a wonderful sense of humor, and as some of his grandkids could tell you, he was sometimes a prankster. Over the years he greatly enjoyed having company over to visit, and always had a helping hand ready for any friend or neighbor in need. One of his favorite pastimes in recent years was to drive around his farm and through the fields in his white Cadillac’ (white golf cart).

Alvin was a man of strong faith, a loving husband, a devoted father, and a steadfast friend. Everyone that knew Alvin loved him, and we will all miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Dean, and his son-in-law Jerry.
Alvin is survived by his wife Lila; his children Richard (Beverly) Moen, Darlene Olson; seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora. Rev. Dean Oelfke officiated. Music was provided by Ronda Willows and Debby Menze. Pallbearers were Joe Callahan, David Bottleson, Dennis Bottleson, Jon Bottleson, Mike Bottleson and Wayne Hollenkamp. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
