FUNERAL SERVICES will be held on Friday, October 24th at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick. VISITATION will be 2 hours prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Leona G. (Oslund) Erickson, of Brunswick, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. She was 97 years old.

She was born on March 24, 1911 to Arvid and Hannah Oslund on a farm in the Brunswick community south of Mora. Leona attended Brunswick School. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Brunswick. Over the years she worked several jobs including the Cambridge Laundry, Munsingwear in Minneapolis, Sunshine Villa in Mora, Federal Cartridge in New Brighton, and the Cambridge State Hospital.

Leona met Rudy Erickson on a blind date, in 1927, and they married May 23, 1931. During the first 5 years of their marriage they lived in Oxlip (Isanti County). In 1936 they bought land in Brunswick where they farmed and raised their family.

Leona was a loving mother of two, a full-time homemaker, and a partner in farming with Rudy. She was an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Brunswick where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and worked with Rudy as church custodians. Leona was also involved in LCW, Senior League, many Bible studies, and various committees.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend as well as for her wonderful cooking, baking, freezing and canning, beautiful flower and vegetable gardening, hand-made quilting and sewing. No one ever left Leona’s table hungry and many looked forward to visiting the Erickson farm as often as possible.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband Rudy; brothers Wallace Oslund, Hilding Oslund; sisters Mabel Chiari, Adeline Rowley, and Jan Agranoff; and son-in-law John Brewster.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Brewster; son Daryl (Linda) Erickson; grandchildren Holly (Patrick) Maddox, Stacy (Michael) Yearous, Kel Erickson, Ryan Erickson, Ross (Tracy) Erickson, and Corey (Maria) Erickson; great-grandchildren Jackson Eric Maddox, Calvin John Erickson, and Emma Leona Yearous; sisters Luella Peterson, and Eunice Schultz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held. on Friday, October 24th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brunswick. Rev. Lori Blake officiated. Music was provided by Becky Agranoff and Deb Menze. Pallbearers were were Kel Erickson, Ryan Erickson, Ross Erickson, Corey Erickson, Patrick Maddox and Michael Yearous. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil Bohlin and Paul Agranoff.
