d-hoekstra.jpgDavid Hoekstra, age 51, died on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Mpls.

Funeral services are will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 8th at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.

David Allen Hoekstra went home to be with our Lord on October 2, 2008 while at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 51. He was born April 25, 1957 in Mora, MN and resided in Ogilvie throughout his life.

David was an Ogilvie High School graduate and had one year of Vocational Technical College where he earned a GPA of 4.0. He worked many years for Fingerhut in Mora until it closed and as a Personal Care Attendant for Brighter Day until his death. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. His greatest joy was ministering to physical and emotional needs of others, visiting with family for special holidays and outings, and deep discussions about politics, his faith, and philosophy. He had an entertaining sense of humor and enjoyed sharing that.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Alyce (VanDeusen) Hoekstra also of Ogilvie. He is survived by three siblings, brother John Albert Hoekstra and wife Sandra of Forest Lake, MN, sister Alyce Faye (Hoekstra) Hatch and husband Andrew of Cottage Grove, MN, sister Marjorie Ann (Hoekstra) and husband Bud (Gordon) Erickson of Apache Junction, AZ, seven nieces and nephews and their families, cousins, and friends.

A Memorial Service held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at the Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora, MN. Rev. Bob DeYoung officiated. Pallbearers are Adam Hoekstra, Jeff Hatch, Brett Schwantes, Melvin Vork, Andy Hatch, and Bud Erickson. Interment at Graceland Cemetery in Ogilvie.

Memorials may be sent to Brighter Day of Mora, MN, the American Diabetes Association, or the American Heart Association.

    I am so soryy for your loss. I lived across the street from Dave and enjoyed his occassional visits if he saw you outside doing things. I just found out today (10/13) of his passing. May God Bless his family at this sad time.
