HELEN MARIE JOHNSON

Helen Johnson, of Braham, died on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at her home at Elmhurst Commons in Braham. She was 93 years old.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham with Fr. Zimmer presiding. VISITATION will be 1/2 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. INURNMENT will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Helen Marie Johnson passed way on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at her home at Elmhurst Commons in Braham, MN. She was 93 years old.
Helen was born in Ludlow, South Dakota on October 26, 1914 to John and Martha (Collier) Johnson. Their family moved to the Twin Cities area when she was very young. Helen was the 2nd of six children. She attended Marshall High School until her mother got sick, and then quite school to care for her.
She married Clarence Johnson on October 30, 1937. To this union three children were born, Terrill, Gary, and Patricia.
Helen was very active in the community. She was a Scout Den mother, and she served on the Pierce School PTA. She also volunteered at the Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. For many years Helen and Clarence chaired a 4th of July celebration to raise money for the local park and the local settlement house, the Margaret Barry house.
Helen’s hobbies included knitting (she supplied the family with many slippers and afghans), reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, fishing, and playing cards.

She was the head cook at a two dorm complex at the University of Minnesota. She retired in 1975 due to health issues and she moved to Elmhurst in Braham in 2000. She will be missed dearly by her family.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Hazel, brothers Edward, Walter, and Robert.
She is survived by her children Terrill (Gloria) Johnson of East Bethel, Gary Johnson of Minneapolis, and Patricia (Duane) Mandery of Mora; grandchildren Sharon Sweeny, Janet (Paul) Renner, David Hagfors, Paula (Rod) Erickson, Melinda Hume, Michael Johnson, and Jody, Johnson; great grandchildren Charlie Sweeny, Christina (David) Shroedl, Philip Renner, Alex, Joey, and Zach Erickson; great great grandsons Tylor Shroedl and Joseph Sweeny; brother Clifford (Mary) Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
