Lester Oscar Barnhart died on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Villa Health Care Center. He was 90 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 22nd at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kroschel. VISITATION will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, August 21 at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora and 1 Hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. INTERMENT will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Lester Oscar Barnhart was born October 1, 1917 to Charles and Anna (Traefald) Barnhart at his grandparent’s home in Peace Township. His family moved to a farm in Iowa when he was a young boy. He had many stories of his walks to school with the other boys, and his delivering pigs to the Estherville Stock Yards using a team of horses. When the family returned to the Mora area, Lester rode the train with his dad and their livestock. He attended Warman School through the 8th grade and also attended Mora High School. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Mora. He worked construction and helped the family on their farm.

On February 15, 1939 he was united in marriage to Margaret Smith. They had 2 children. Peace Township was their home for their 69 years of marriage. He farmed, worked construction, and was a custodian and painter at the Mora High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling with friends and family. He was a long time member of St John’s Lutheran Church of Kroschel. Some of his most memorable times were made while spending time with his special church family.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Barnhart; daughter Eileen Janousek; granddaughter Virginia Janousek. He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 69 years; son Rodney and his wife Rita of Mora; son-in-law Harry Janousek of Mora; brothers Clarence Barnhart of Sterling, Colorado and Arnold (Lee) Barnhart of Detroit Lakes; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His funeral held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kroschel, MN. Rev. Michael Breach will officiate. Music provided by Katie Williams. Pallbearers are Jerry, Janousek, Tom Janousek, David Janousek, Loren Rabe, Roger Williams and Loi Nguyen. Burial in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
