Lula Mae (Henderson) Fore was born December 7, 1913 to Gilbert LeRoy and Fannie Sarah (Doebler) Henderson, in rural Kanabec County, Ogilvie, Minnesota, at her grandparents home; Andrew Jackson and Sarah Elizabeth (Vanarsdol) Henderson. She lived with her parents and siblings in the Henriette, Minnesota area during her years of growing up. She was the second of six children. Her family made many moves during her life, but always stayed in the Mora and Henriette areas. She started school in the Ann Lake School north of Mora. Then they lived on a sheep ranch north of Mora and she and her siblings walked 1 miles to school. They could hear the wolves howling on their way. Needless to say, they didn’t do any playing on the way! When she was in the forth grade she started school at Henriette and continued there until she went to high school in Brook Park, Minnesota. In her early years of school in Henriette they rode a horse drawn school bus. It was heated with charcoal heaters, which didn’t keep them warm, but it helped. Later they had a motor school bus.

On June 17, 1935 she married Melvin Fore at the Methodist Parsonage in Pine City, Minnesota with Rev. John Parish (a brother to Lula’s uncle) as minister. They lived their entire life in the Henriette area. They had four children; Caroline Faye, Dennis LeRoy, Bertha Mae and Curtis (stillborn on March 11, 1949).

She was a life long member of the Henriette Free Methodist Church. She was active in church, teaching Sunday School, Bible School, member of the Missionary Society where she held several offices including president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. She was also treasurer of the church for a number of years. She was always the first one to bring food to church gatherings, and made many quilts for missions and local people through the church.

She loved to garden and in the Fall she always shared her surplus vegetables with many friends and neighbors. She also raised many flowers and on Sunday morning she often picked a bouquet to share at church.

Melvin and Lula farmed all their years until Melvin retired. When Dennis bought the farm in 1969, they moved across the road to a small place next to Highway 107 where they lived for many years. Melvin died on July 18, 1974 after several years of poor health. In 1995 Lula bought a trailer home and moved to Hewitt, Minnesota and enjoyed living near son Dennis, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who visited her often.

Lula died at the Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, Minnesota on April 23, 2008. She was 94 years, 4 months and 16 days old.

Lula was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melvin; infant son Curtis ; five siblings Vida (John) Lundgren, Eva (Christ) Christianson, Ralph (Fern) Henderson, Dorothy (Harry) Ward, and Harold (Ann) Henderson.

She is survived by her children Caroline (Ralph) Hall of Atwater, MN; Dennis (Lucinda) Fore of Hewitt, MN; and Bertha (Jack) Sem of Golden Valley, ND; grandchildren Daryl (Carrie) Hall, Karen (Raul) Guzman, Susan (Daniel) Morrissey, Aaron (Mary) Fore, Jennifer (Kyle) Flannery, Trent (Rebecca) Fore.
