LeRoy Bankers of Mora, Minnesota died on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at St. Cloud Hospital. He was 68 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 7th at Lewis Lake Covenant Church in rural Ogilvie. VISITATION will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 6th at Akkerman-Ingebrand Chapel in Mora, and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. INTERMENT will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mora. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
LeRoy “Peewee” Joseph Bankers was born March 18, 1939 at home in Quamba, Minnesota in Kanabec County to Theodore and Margaret (Jeuken) Bankers, he was the youngest of six children. He grew up on the family farm and attended county school and Mora High School until he was 17 years old.
On June 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to Joan Wimmer and together they had six children. They raised their children on the family farm near Mora. LeRoy farmed dairy cattle, worked for Gorham’s LP gas, hauled milk for various companies, and worked for Land O’ Lakes. LeRoy’s love was always farming and the hard work that was involved. Joan died on August 20, 1990.
On June 9, 2001 LeRoy was united in marriage to Muriel (Sohlstrom Johnsen) at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mora. They enjoyed many trips together including an Alaskan cruise, trips to Duluth, Colorado, Iowa, and South Dakota. He enjoyed going to “the camper” which is where their new house was built in 2006 and he lived until the time of his death.
LeRoy and Muriel attended Lewis Lake Covenant Church and loved going to services at the church.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Margaret Bankers, wife Joan, brother James Bankers, sisters and brother-in-law Dorothy and Don Boyer, Deloris Stanton, Alice Schultz.
He is survived by his wife Muriel, sons Allan (Cathy) Bankers of Braham, Dale (Diane) Bankers of Mora; daughters Denise (Keith) Manthie of Milaca, Susan (Gordon) Coon of Ogilvie, Nancy Bankers of Shakopee, and Patty (Ken) Tarnowski of St. Cloud; stepchildren Richard Johnsen of Mora, Randy (Rhonda) Johnsen of St. Cloud, Robert (Tammy) Johnsen of Mora, and Rochelle (Josh) Stanley of Denver, CO; brother Raymond (Agnes) Bankers of Mora; sister Margaret (Lowell) Strombeck of Mora; brother-in-laws Ralph Stanton of Washington and Ed Schultz of Mora; fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Lewis Lake Covenant Church in rural Ogilvie with the Rev. Robert DeYoung presiding. Music was proved by Rick Anderson and Dorothy Gerdin. Casket bearers were David Bankers, Tony Bankers, Tim Bankers, Brian Bankers, Richard Johnsen, and Robert Johnsen. Interment was the Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Mora. Arrangements are with the Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora.
