m-rush.jpgMildred G. Rush, of Mora died Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora. She was 89 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 8th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora. VISITATION will be 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 7th at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora. INTERMENT will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mildred Rush was born November 25, 1918 at home in Franconia Township, Chisago County, Minnesota to Aloysius and Anna (Theis) Greene. She attended District #31, Woodlawn school for most of her elementary education. She also stayed with relatives and attended parochial school in Marystown and Shakopee, Minnesota. Mildred graduated from Osceola High School in 1936 and attended St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul for two years receiving a teaching certificate in 1941. She taught first grade in Holdingford and Taylors Falls before her marriage to Arthur O. Kent, a house mover, in 1946. They resided on a farm in the Braham area until his death in 1959. Mildred received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963 from St. Cloud State. She taught for 20 years at Pine City Elementary school, retiring in 1981. She married Gaylord Rush, a farmer, in 1966. They lived on a farm in Grasston area until he retired in 1978. They moved to Knife Lake in 1983. It was always Mildred’s dream to live on a lake. She loved to watch the changing seasons while knitting, crocheting and quilting. She had a Mitten Christmas Tree filled with homemade mittens for all of her grandchildren. She knit wool socks for her sons and sons-in-law.

Mildred’s favorite hobby in her latter years was quilting. She produced well over 200 beautiful quilts of which her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoy every day. Mildred loved to travel. She packed up her seven children in a 1955 Buick and toured Lake Superior. Other trips were made to the Grand Canyon and the Black Hills.

Mildred was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Martha’s Mission Circle and Quilting Friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Cyril, Herbert and infant brother Raymond Greene; husbands Arthur O. Kent and Gaylord Rush; and son Donald Kent.

Mildred is survived by sons Art (Patsy) Kent of Milaca, Jerry (Laurie) Kent of Inver Grove Heights, Terry (Karen) Kent of Columbia City, OR, and Daniel (Kathy) Kent of Braham; daughters Kate (Edward) Combs of Fromberg, Montana, and Marcy (Dale) Vacinek of Menahga, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 step- great grandchildren; 2 brothers Ralph (Rosemary) Greene of Eau Clair, WI, and L. Patrick (Mary) Greene of Shafer, MN; 1 sister Maryanne (Don) Hecht of Cumberland, WI; sisters-in-law Jane Greene of Lindstrom, MN and Mary Greene of Stillwater, MN; plus many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 8, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora. Visitation will be Thursday evening, February 7th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora. Fr. Eugene Plaistad will officiate. Music will be provided by Sarah and Megan Combs, Kelsey Seppelt, and Kirs Paulson and the St. Mary’s Choir. Pallbearers will be David Kent, Luke Comgs, Jeremy Vacinek, Christopher Vacinek, Robert Kent and Bret Kent. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mora.
