Carmen O. Schardin, of Mora, died Saturday, January 5, 2007 at the Villa Health Care Center. She was 91 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICES will be held 11:00 AM WEDNESDAY, January 9, 2008 at Calvary Lutheran Church of Mora. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Carmen O. Schardin was born June 23, 1916 in Comfrey, MN to Carl and Olga (Berge) Olson. She graduated from Comfrey High School in 1933 and moved to Minneapolis where she worked for a number of years. She married Ford G. Schardin in 1939 and continued to live in Minneapolis and the Richfield suburb until they moved to Knife Lake north of Mora in the mid-1960’s.
Mrs. Schardin shared her husband’s love of the out-of-doors and together they participated in many hunting, fishing and camping adventures throughout the years. She also loved working out-of-doors and was an avid gardener. Mrs. Schardin was an active Girl Scout leader in the 1940’s and 1950’s, again bringing the out-of-doors to her daughter and other young girls. She devoted her life to the church, singing in the choir and belonging to many Bible Study groups.
Mrs. Schardin was preceded in death by her husband, Ford in 1973; her youngest son, Bill in 2005; daughter-in-law, Marcia in 2005; a brother, Harold; and two sisters, Syneva and Theona. She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie and her husband Ron Dahl of Rice Lake, WI; a son, Ford Schardin, Jr. of Spring Lake Park, MN; two grandchildren, Peter Dahl and his wife Dianne of Sunny Vale, CA; Kristin Dahl of Minneapolis, MN; and a great-granddaughter, Naomi Dahl of Sunny Vale, CA.
Rev. Dean Oelfke will officiate at the Funeral Service. Music provided by Deb Menze and Susan Williams. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
