_________________________________________________________

Ellen E. Jaques was born September 21, 1915 in Greeley Minnesota to Emily (Johnson) and Oscar Lundberg. She was raised by her grandparents Olaf and Emma Johnson on the family farm. Upon graduation from Rush City High School she was employed by a family in Minneapolis and followed this by attending teachers training in Pine City. She experienced life as a one room school teacher, teaching all eight grades in rural Pine County schools.

Ellen married Alden Jaques of Grasston on July 20, 1939 and they made their home in Braham. She left teaching to raise her family and later worked at the drugstore in Braham for many years. Al passed away in 1988 and Ellen continued living in their home until entering Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge in 2003.

Ellen was a long time member of the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church where she took part in many activities. Throughout the years she enjoyed being a 4-H leader, a league bowler and a member of the homemakers club. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, cooking and baking ~ all labors of love shared with family and friends. Ellen appreciated the outdoors and liked to feed and watch the birds. Her favorite place to do that was at her cabin on Mille Lacs Lake where she made memories for many people. She loved to read and throughout her whole life was always interested in and able to discuss current affairs on every level.

But her greatest love was always children and she made sure that every one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew how special they were to her.

Ellen passed away November 2, 2007 at Grandview Christian Home at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband Alden, sister Evelyn and grandson Jon. She is survived by son Lowell and wife Sharon Jaques of Braham and daughter Kathryn and husband Thomas Woodfill of Ramsey. She is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren Douglas (Chris) Jaques, Michael and Eric; Kirk (Debbie Brunko) Woodfill, Karla and Dustin; Daniel Jaques; Deanna (Shane) Monson, Jon and Ryan; David (Leslie) Jaques, Maddie and Andrew; Brian Woodfill, Anna; Dawn (Shaun) Fiedler, Amelia, Ben and Nathan; and one nephew Ronald Johnson.

Remembering your mother is sweet. May God comfort you all. Russell was so happy to see her at Grandview, but I never did. Thanks for the memories of years gone by.

    Dear Jaques Family,
So sorry to hear of Ellen’s passing. Mom just called me this morning and let me know. We were home for deer hunting on the farm but didn’t get into town to hear the news. Mom will be at the funeral and will also work in the kitchen helping clean up. I am the only one running the office tomorrow so will be unable to attend. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. As a youngster I remember trick or treating in Braham (maybe it should be called “Running amuck!”) Cutting through yards or thru gardens was a given EXCEPT when it came to the Jaques yard. We always went around and never through!!!! I remember the flowers and plants vividly and remember visits discussing birds and looking at pictures. There were always baked treats that were familiar and also ones a little different (doesn’t take much for a chocolate chip cookie girl). I have fond memeories of Ellen as you all do. I will be with you all in spirit. Peace to you all!! Love, Chris and family

I CAN STILL REMEMBER THOSE TIMES THAT I STAYED OVERNIGHT WITH LOWELL DURING THOSE GRADE SCHOOL YEARS.
ELLEN DID NOT LET US GET AWAY WITH VERY MUCH.
I ALSO REMEMBER THOSE TIMES THAT I VISITED HER IN GRANDVIEW. SHE WAS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE THAT STILL REMEMBER MY GRANDPARENTS.
WE HAD SOME WONDERFUL VISITS. I HOPE THAT SHE ENJOYED THEM AS MUCH AS I DID.
SHE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY.
