Joan Elaine (Joey) Ollestad was born on June 30th, 1927 in Duluth Minnesota, the daughter of Ronald and Esther Greaves. She was very active in her church, Zion Lutheran, along with her cousin Marilyn. Joan was confirmed by Pastor Grimsby and went on special fun activities like hay rides that she loved to talk about. Marilyn was like her sister and they were very close cousins. She graduated from Denfield High School in Duluth. She was united in marriage in 1948 to Willis George Ollestad in Duluth and moved to Minneapolis, then Spring Lake Park where they had six children, Ron, Gary, Linda, Jeff, Guy and Brenda, whom they loved very much.
She lived for her six children and was very proud of all of them. She was loved by all and was a fantastic mother. She made many sacrifices of herself to allow her children the best life anyone could ask for. She was always there for them after school with home-made bread or other treats. After the kids were a little older she went to work at their high school and was still home when they got off the bus. Eventually Joan and George moved to their home by Mora on Knife Lake. She loved music, to play 500, Kismit and do the crypto quip and crossword puzzles out of the newspaper and loved her collie Copper. She also loved living on the lake with George and enjoyed devoting her life to her huge, growing family.
She was preceded in death by husband, Willis “George” (June 28, 2007), parents, and 1 great-grandchild, Taylor Shank.
Survived by six children, George Ronald (Becki) Ollestad of Elk River, Gary Allen (Sandi) Ollestad of Duluth, Linda Joan (Jerry) Hohenwald of Mora, Jeffrey Scott (Virginia) Ollestad Sr. of Mora, Guy Dennis Ollestad of Bovey and Brenda Jean (Steve) Christopher of Mora; grandchildren Chad Ollestad, Kyle Ollestad, Monica (Darrin) Rocheford, Eric Ollestad, Ryan Hohenwald, Lori (Tim) Stich, Craig Hohenwald, Angie Dibba, Bridgett Ollestad, Jeff Ollestad, Gregg Ollestad, Tom Ollestad, Heidi Ollestad, Bruce Ollestad, Matt Ollestad, Curt Ollestad, Colleen Florell; 7 great-grandchildren, Landen Ollestad, Brooke Rocheford, Kyle Hohenwald, Jordan Stich, Jada Stich, Emma Ollestad, Aiden Ollestad; brother, Dennis Greaves of New Hope; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
