Becky Schultz-McDermott died Friday, September 28, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was 45 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 11:00 am at Zion Lutheran Church in Mora. VISITATION will be Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm at Akkerman – Ingebrand Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Brunswick, MN.
Rebecca Ellen Schultz – McDermott died Friday evening September 28, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was 45 years old. Becky became a paraplegic in January 1983 following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from her spine. She suffered numerous health problems during the intervening years until the time of her death.
Becky was born December 8, 1961 at Mora, MN to Hubert and Martha (Posey) Schultz. She was Baptized and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of Mora and was a member of Zion Lutheran at the time of her death. She graduated from Mora High School in 1980. She married Jeffrey Provost in September 1981. After their divorce, she moved to Minneapolis and attended Minneapolis Community College where she earned an Associate Degree in Human Services. After receiving her degree, she worked at the Metropolitan Center for Independent Living and J.C. Penney Co. She also did extensive volunteer work at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. She married Glen McDermott in June 1994 and they lived in Brooklyn Park. In 2001, she returned to Mora where she resided at the time of her death. In spite of all her health problems, Becky maintained a positive attitude and always had a smile on her face. She was dearly loved by her family and friends.
Becky is survived by her parents Hubert and Martha Schultz; brothers Michael (Naomi) Schultz and Wade (Stefani) Schultz, all of Mora; stepson, Joseph Edward McDermott; six nieces and nephews, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday October 2, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church of Mora with Rev. Greggory Coop and Rev. Gary Schultz officiating. Music was provided by Karen Danielson, Bonnie Grunke and Don Holznagel. Honorary Pallbearers were her cousins, Dean Posey, Scott Harelson, Mark Harelson, Jill Gratzek, Anna Bolen, and Robert Posey. Burial of cremains was at Riverside Cemetery in Brunswick, MN. The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.
