Larry Knudson of Brook Park died unexpecedly at home on Sept. 1, 2007. He was 65 years old.
FUNERAL SERVICE 2:00pm – Thursday Sept. 6 at Church of the Nazarene, (525 2nd St. Mora). VISITATION Wednesday Sept 5 from 5 to 8 pm at Akkerman – Ingebrand Funeral Home and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Larry Knudson passed away unexpectedly Saturday, September 1st, 2007 at his home. He was 65 years old.
He was born April 24, 1942 to Harold and Laura (Koch) Knudson at Pokegama Hospital in Pine County. He spent his entire life in Pomroy Township except for one year, at the age of four, his family moved to the state of Washington. He attended District 58 School and graduated from Hinckley High School in 1960.
He bought the farm next to his parent’s farm in Pomroy Township in 1963. He was married to Phebe Simons on September 5, 1964. They have resided on the farm ever since. They had three children: Mark, Karla, and Sara. Larry was a member of the Mora Church of the Nazarene, where he served as Trustee and worship leader for many years. His main occupation and passion was farming. Larry also worked in construction, floor installation, and drove bus for Hinckley Schools for several years. He has been a Pomroy Township Supervisor for many years. He was a member of the Kanabec Coop board and always looked forward to hunting on the farm with his many hunting friends. He loved country and bluegrass music and enjoyed going to Midwest Country Music Theater in Sandstone on Saturday evenings.
He had unconditional love for his family. Larry enjoyed taking his family on explorations across the United States and Canada. If there was a mountain, he climbed it. In the last few years, trips were to made to Texas and Pennsylvania, where he always found projects to do. He enjoyed meeting and talking to people and made friends wherever he went. Larry was proud of all the things his children accomplished. He enjoyed helping his children with their English compositions and wrote a graduation speech for Sara. Larry had a flair for writing poetry, and left many keepsake poems for his loved ones, including a very special one for his only granddaughter upon her birth. Mark and his wife, Cheryl moved to the farm in 1995. According to Larry, Cheryl was the best farm helper he ever had and considered her his daughter. His pride and joy were his grandchildren: Jared, Ryan, and Luke Knudson; and Seth and Hannah Rose Barker. He loved making up and telling stories to entertain the grandchildren and playing practical jokes. Also, he truly had a special place in his heart for his pets.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Laura Knudson; nephew, Steven Simons; and other relatives.
His is survived by his wife of 43 years, Phebe; son, Mark (Cheryl) Knudson of Brook Park; daughters, Karla (Tim) Roberts of Collinsville, TX and Sara (Stephen) Barker of Rural Valley, PA; grandchildren, Jared, Ryan, and Luke Knudson and Seth and Hannah Barker; siblings, Connie Knudson, Roy “Bud” Knudson, Nancy (Kenny) Ness all of Brook Park; special niece, Leah Ness and her son, Andrew Jones of Owatonna, MN. Larry is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He will be dearly missed.
