Raymond Hawkinson, of Mora, died on Saturday, August 11 at the Villa Health Care Center. He was 98 years old.

FUNERAL SERVICE will be held on Wednesday, August 15th at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to ther service on Wednesday at the church. INTERMENT will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.


Raymond Fredrick Hawkinson was born on August 24, 1908 on the family farm near Scandia, Minnesota to Emil and Esther (Monson) Hawkinson. His childhood was spent helping on the family farm and also helping neighbors. He attended Goose Lake School through the 8th grade; and continued to work the family farm until his marriage to Anna M. Rathover on September 15, 1936. They bought the farm of Anna’s parents near Badger, Minnesota and farmed there until September 1947; then they moved back to Scandia where Raymond worked as a painter. In 1948 they move to Grygla, Minnesota where both Raymond and Anna worked in a restaurant/bar. In the spring of 1949 they bought a farm near Shafer, Minnesota, but in December they moved back to Grygla and Raymond worked at Gonnering Feed-Seed and Lumber. In 1951 they bought a farm near Gonvick, Minnesota where they farmed and in later years Raymond did some carpentry work for 25 years. After they retired they bought a home near Glen, Minnesota where they lived for 14 years before moving to Mora and purchasing a home on Walnut Street.

Raymond enjoyed farming, carpenter work, gardening, fishing, visiting with family and friends, and playing cards with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister; one grandson, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Raymond is survived by his wife of seventy years, Anna of Mora; sons Fred (Joanne) Hawkinson of Souix Falls, SD, Leland (Julie) Hawkinson of Coon Rapids, MN; daughter Beverly (Arnie) Brendalen of Mora; sister Edith Olsen of St. Croix Falls, WI; 6 grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; plus many great and step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
