Herbert Arnold Englund was born December 31st, 1929 in Saskatchewan, Canada to Andrew and Annie (Jackson) Englund; he was the youngest of their three children. He was baptized as an infant and after making a decision to follow Jesus, was confirmed as an adult at Peace Lutheran Church. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Englewood, CA. The family moved to Grandy, MN in 1946 and Herbert graduated from Cambridge High School in 1949. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a tank commander from 1952 – 1954. Upon returning home, he married Ruth Becklin on January 21, 1956 at Rush Point Lutheran Church. They were blessed with three daughters.
Herbert and Ruth lived in Columbia Heights for the first three years of their marriage and then moved to Blaine, MN. They resided in Blaine for nearly 30 years before moving to Stanchfield, MN. Herbert was employed at the Minneapolis Post Office for 34 years before retiring in 1988.
He was an active member of the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the cemetery board and various other committees. Prior to this he was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids, MN. His hobbies included: visiting the elderly, woodworking, gardening, and planting trees. His family and friends have many hand-crafted wooden items to remember Herbert by.
He was a man of few words, but his quiet humble spirit impacted us all. He always put God first in his life, which was a great example for all his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who knew him. Herbert was always ready and willing to help family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Florence. He is survived by his wife Ruth; brother, Arthur (Alice) Englund of California; daughters, Teresa (Richard) Person of Stanchfield, Kathleen (Fabio) Lopez of Zimmerman, and Doreen (James) Stocke of Walker; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and loyal golden retriever, Dolly.
