FUNERAL SERVICE will be on Tuesday, July 17 at 2:00 P.M. at Assembly of God Church in Mora. VISITATION will be held on Monday evening, July 16 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Rock-Ingebrand Chapel in Braham and 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.


Elda was born on June 11, 1912 at home in St. Mathias Township, Crow Wing County, MN, to Wilhelm and Amelia (Schaumann) Klapel. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior in St. Cloud, MN on July 9, 2007 at the age of 95 years, 4 weeks. She attended district #50 school to the 8th grade and was a graduate of North Central Bible College, Class of 1936. On September 6, 1942 she married Thomas McDonnell.

She was a 4-H leader for 8 years, clerk for the Coin, MN School Board, teacher’s aid for 3 years at Braham, MN, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school secretary/treasurer for approx. 27 years at the Mora Assembly of God Church, Charter Member of the Little Falls Assembly of God Church (1943), Charter Member of the Mora Assembly of God Church (1963), Missionette Director , Junior Bible Quiz Team Director, homemaker, wife, mother, babysitter, and special grandmother. She belonged to the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, and a Gold Star Mother.

She was preceded in death by her only son, Joel in Viet Nam on 12/18/1966; husband, Thomas on 12/16/1990; parents; brothers, Rudolph, Ben, Carl, Ed, and Bill; and sisters, Esther, Ruth, Anna, Lillian, Minnie, and Emma.

She is survived by sisters, Millie Klapel of Coon Rapids, MN, Hattie Jensen of Port Orchard, WA; daughters, Judy (Nick) Kotts of Longmont, CO, and Joan (Gary) Sohlstrom of St. Cloud, MN; nine grandchildren, Jeff (Cyndi) Anderson of Palmer, Alaska, Greg (Laura) Anderson of Coon Rapids, MN, Joel (Cora) Anderson of Gresham, OR, Julie (Darin) Larabee of Burnsville, MN, David (Sandra) Sohlstrom of Seattle, WA, Steven Sohlstrom of St. Cloud, MN, Jeremy Sohlstrom of Minneapolis, MN, Nathan Sohlstrom of Oshkosh, WI, and Christina Sohlstrom of Minneapolis, MN; nine great-grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca, Emily, Sara, Carrie, Joel, Justin and Cora Anderson, Devin Larabee; and one great-great grandson, Trent; and numerous nieces and nephews.
