MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Friday, June 29th at 2:00 p.m. at Akkerman-Ingebrand Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.


Gary Lee Byker was born December 27, 1943 in Braham, Minnesota to Garit and Doris (Norman) Byker. He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of three siblings. He attended Ogilvie Public School. He continued to help with the family farming and then got his first job at Land O’ Lakes creamery in Milaca, Minnesota. He went on to work with Ratzloff logging for many years as a shear operator, and then worked for Hjort Construction as a heavy equipment operator.

His hobbies included fishing, traveling, photography and the out-of-doors. It was important for Gary to spend time with his family.

Gary was preceded in death by parents Garit and Doris Byker.

He is survived by his children: two sons Kevin (Michelle Tuey) and Kenny; two daughters Becky (Stephen) and Mandy; grandchildren Andrew, Derrick, Devin and Preston; BreeAnna, Christopher, James, Markece, Alanah and Neveah; great grandson Dominick; extended family Pho and Michelle; extended grandchildren Danielle, Tiffany and Cory; brother Gene (Avis); sister Vonnie (Dwight) Oman; plus many other family and friends.

  1. I have the privilege of working with Gary’s son, Kevin Byker. While I did not know Gary, his son is a fine and inspiring man. As the acorn never falls far from the tree I can only conclude that Gary must have been a fine man too. May he rest in peace and look down on Kevin, and Kevin’s own sons, with great pride.

  3. Grandpa I miss you more than ever I wish i would have known you werent doing well, your death was out of the blue sky, your favorite color. You would be so proud of the car i have I love you so much. I miss camping with you fishing, boating, and browsing the malls. you were amazing i wish you were still here. I am deeply sorry i did not speak up for you at your funeral and im sorry the person you hate most attended your funeral. I am also very sorry your funeral was so very religious, i know you arnt at all. If it was up to me that stuff wouldnt have happened. I love you so much Ill never forget you.

  5. Merry Christmas Grandpa. I miss and love you, life isnt the same without you and never will be. Today is your birthday, Happy birthday! 68 today, that’s it. I still think about you and still wish you could some how come back or show some sign of yourself. I love you and plan to visit soon. See you then and cant wait to see you again some day. I love you
