betty.jpgBetty Kay Shafter died on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at her home in rural Mora, Minnesota at the age of 17. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service (from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) on Saturday at the church.

Betty Kay Shafer, of Mora, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on April 24, 2007 at her home. She was 17 years old.

Betty was born on March 18, 1990 to Monica and Larry Shafer. She grew up in Brunswick township, Mora, Minnesota. Betty attended Ogilvie School where she made a lot of friends. On September 9, 2006 Betty had a massive stroke. She was airlifted to Children’s Hospital where she spent 1 months, and then moved to Gillete Hospital for another 1 months for rehab. Betty continued to recover at home and made remarkable progress daily. Her best friend Holli stood by her side through it all.

She loved to go camping with her relatives. Her best trait was the gift to gab. She loved her horses and her dog, Scooby. Betty was anxious to get back to school. She inspired just about everybody and anybody who crossed her path.

Betty is survived by her mother and step-father Monica (Mattson) and David Arnold of Mora; siblings step-brother Brian, step-sister Michelle, sister Rose, and brother Mark; grandparents Darrold and Sharon Mattson of McGrath, Larry G. Shafer of Rochester; step-grandmother Betty Arnold of Mora; great-grandmother Lillian Arnold of Mora; many aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Larry H. Shafer; great grandfather Howard Arnold and step-brother Matt.
