He is survived by Darlene, his wife of 23 years and best friend; his children Wendy (Tim) Goldsmith, Cindy (Aydin) Akdeniz, Dan (Julie) Gustafson, and Debra Gustafson; grandchildren Krista (Nate) Jones, Mike Goldsmith, Seher and Derya Akdeniz, Jake,Scot, Marc and Matthew Gustafson; sister Darlene Jacobson; sister-in-law Nancy Olson; mother and father-in-law Alvin and Lila Moen; brother-in-law Dick (Bev) Moen; plus several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Richard; and brother-in-law Dean Moen.
Jerry lived his life always thinking of others and especially thinking of his furry friends. He was known as the “McGyver” in the family – there wasn’t a thing he couldn’t build or fix. He spent 32 years working as a millwright and just retired in 2003. After retirement he enjoyed tinkering in his garage and long summer days with his best friend, Darlene, at the lake. That was their home away from home.
Jerry was a man who let his actions speak louder than his few words. It was how he lived his life that will be an example for all of us. He will be dearly missed and thought of often.
Rev. Daphne Hoff officiated at the funeral service. Music was provided by Deb Menze and Mike Nelson. Pallbearers were Kris Olson, Lavern Kompelien, Dean Weidendorf, Mike Goldsmith, Brent Greenberg and Josh Hansen. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
