HARRY KOCH

koch.jpgHarry Koch, of Pomroy Township, Brook Park, MN died on Sunday, Feb. 11 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was 80 years old. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kroschel, MN. Visitation will be on Friday evening, Feb. 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral in Mora and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Harry Arnold Koch was born in 1927 at home in Pomroy Township, Kanabec County, Minnesota to William and Florence (Hermanson) Koch. He attended District 31 country school through the 8th grade and worked on the family farm that was homesteaded by his grandparents.

In 1949 he married Delores Bassett and in a short time took over the family farm, which remained his passion throughout his life. To them were born three children. During his lifetime, he was involved in dairy production and later beef cattle and growing the crops to feed them. He was always very inventive when it came to finding a quicker or easier way to get the job done. Harry will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his sweet tooth. He enjoyed deer hunting every year with Albert Foust.

Harry was a supervisor on the Pomroy Township Board for many years and a fire warden for 25 years. He was confirmed and married at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Kroschel, Minnesota and remained a lifelong member.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Laura Knudson. He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Delores; daughters Elaine (Gary) Alderink, and Harriet (Richard) Suomala; son Wayne Koch; 7 grandchildren Julie (Troy Fasching) Alderink, Kristen (Chad) Nolan, April (Shane Rothstein) Alderink, Jessi (Jared) Rakness, Jon (Charice) Suomala, Jamie (Kassandra) Koch, and Kimberly Koch; 7 great-grandchildren Andrew, Hannah, Hunter, Emma, Zander, David and Kyle; one brother Elmer Koch; plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rev. Michael Breach officiated at the funeral services. Music was provided by Katie Williams and members of St. John’s Choir. Pallbearers were Jamie Koch, Jon Suomala, Jared Rakness, Troy Fasching, Chad Nolan and Shane Rothstein. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
