Mickey Dumas, of Mora, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at her home on January 25, 2012. She was 58 years old.

Mickey was born on May 13, 1953 in Hopkins, MN to Kenneth and Dorothy (Chandler) Dumas. She was the youngest of ten children. Mickey attended St. Margaret’s Catholic High School in Minneapolis graduating in 1971.

After completing high school, Mickey worked at several different jobs including Tonka Toys in Mound, MN. In the mid-1980s, Mickey fulfilled a life-long dream when she purchased a small farm near Mora. She lived out her life on that farm. Mickey’s hobbies were crafting, quilting, photography and reading. Over the years, her dogs were her constant companions. Her dogs, Lydia, Jake and Zoe made Mickey’s life richer. They were as special to her as children. However, it was Mickey’s family and friends that were the center of her life. Even when she could not be near the ones she loved, Mickey was faithful to keep in touch with phone calls and cards. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Mickey is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Chief; nephews: Tom Dunsmore, Jimmie Skaalerud, and Steven Dumas; niece, Jayne Dumas.

Mickey is survived by siblings: Pat (LeRoy) Schwartz, Barb Romine, Kathleen (Jim) Skaalerud, Bunny (Irv) Dunsmore, Suzie (Rick) Glodek, Steve (Jean) Dumas, Dorothy (Paul) Swanson and Bill (Ivy) Dumas, and nephew: Adam (Jodi) Dunsmore of Mora. Many other nieces and nephews, greats and great-greats too numerous to name also survive – each and every one was a dear gift to Mickey.

Ethel L. (Dalbey) Beckman of Mora, Minnesota, passed away on January 24, 2012. She was 84 years old.

Ethel was born to Molly (Wilcox) and Earl Dalbey on January 11, 1928 in Mora, Minnesota. She spent most of her childhood in the Mora area. The family settled north of Mora on the Snake River. She attended Northwestern College and McPhail School of Performing Arts. Ethel was a trained concert pianist. Ethel married Marlowe Beckman in 1954. She traveled with Marlowe to Texas when he was stationed there during his military service. The first of their four children was born in 1963. They bought farmland from Earl and Molly Dalbey (Ethel’s parents) around 1964.

Music was Ethel’s daily companion. She shared her gift of music at Emmanuel Baptist Church. She also taught piano lessons. Many people came to Ethel’s home to learn, practice and perform several styles of music. In the sixties, Ethel and Marlowe founded the Singing Youth for Christ (SYC). This singing group was an interdenominational choir of high school and college students. SYC performed, traveled and even recorded an album. That album was recorded in the Beckmans’ living room.

Ethel’s musical knowledge of range, fundamentals and process far exceeded most pianists. She was always ready to teach and laugh and paint the scene with her music. Ethel was also a talented seamstress. She sketched her wedding dress from a display window. The gown was later sewn by her sister, Ardis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one grandchild, Nicholas.

Ethel is survived by two daughters: Deb Beckman of Braham, and Terrie Rath of Bismarck, ND; two sons: Nat Beckman of Mora, and Bart (Nancy) Beckman of Hinckley. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Anna was born on October 28, 1914 on the family farm near Badger, Minnesota to parents Frank and Bessie (Reznik) Ratkovec. She attended the Stoffel country school until the 6th grade then helped the family on the farm. Being the eldest child, she helped her father with the animals and in the fields. In 1931, Anna moved to St. Paul where she lived with an aunt, uncle, and cousins. In 1933, she traveled with them to the World’s Fair in Chicago. As a young woman, she worked as a maid and child caregiver in St. Paul and during the summer along the St. Croix River near Scandia. She continued to work until she was united in marriage to Raymond Fredrick Hawkinson. Together they bought Anna’s parents’ farm near Badger, MN and farmed until September of 1947. They moved back to Scandia for a year then moved to Grygla, MN where Anna and Raymond both worked in a restaurant-bar establishment. In 1951, they bought a farm near Gonvick, MN where they farmed for the next twenty-five years. After selling the farm, Anna and Raymond moved to a home near Glen, MN where they lived for fourteen years. In 1990, they moved to Mora and purchased their home on Walnut Street. They lived there until moving to the Villages of Mora in 2001. In November of 2009, Anna moved to the Scandia House in Mora where she spent her final years.

William Jeremiah “Bill” Ward was born on April 26, 1934 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Geraldine and William Ward where he joined his sister, Kay. He attended St. Columba Grade School and graduated from Wilson High School. In his early years, Bill spent his summers in Crestbard, South Dakota at his Aunt and Uncle’s farm. He LOVED his summers spent on the farm and never tired of telling stories of Aunt Maggie’s cooking and Uncle Steve’s gentle tutelage. Bill’s country roots were firmly planted during those years. His love of the outdoors never failed to bring him joy.

After high school, Bill served a brief period of time in the Navy and Air Force. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Minnesota and secured his first job at Tjernlund Sheet Metal.

He married long time friend and “girl next door,” Luann (Young) Ward in 1957. To that union, they welcomed five (perfect) children. In 1966, they moved to Hibbing, Minnesota where he worked at Range Cornice. He eventually started his own business, Mesaba Sheet Metal. During the years he spent in Hibbing, he was a member of numerous clubs including the Elks Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Snowcome Snowmobile Club. He also enjoyed moose and deer hunting, bow hunting, fishing, curling and downhill skiing. During the summer months, he spent time on South Centre Lake in Lindstrom where he built a beautiful cabin. He enjoyed boating, was a natural on water skis and taught his children and many a guest how to drop a ski. Bill also acquired his flying license and spent hundreds of hours in the sky, often taking his children along with him to “practice” take offs’ and landings! Shortly after acquiring his pilot’s license, Bill purchased a small Cessna airplane affectionately known as “Triple Niner Tango.” Often he would buzz the cabin in his plane before landing. That was his children’s cue to pick him up at the nearby airport.

In 1991, Bill sold his business and retired. He and Luann enjoyed a Gypsy lifestyle for a year before purchasing property near Rush Lake. This was a special project for Bill because he bought the home in Coon Rapids and moved it 60 miles to its current location. NEVER a dull moment! Bill was an endlessly energetic and no topic was off limits. He enjoyed many diverse hobbies, including making maple syrup, raising honey bees, building elaborate model airplanes and fish houses, roasting and hosting pig roasts, watching John Wayne movies, throwing pottery, and, of course, logging nearly as many hours cutting grass at the Purple Hawk Golf Course as he did in the sky with “Tango.” EVERYTHING was of interest to him. He was a curious, open minded and wonderfully charming man with a very sharp and witty sense of humor; he was never shy with a compliment. These qualities certainly provided for much laughter and a very full and interesting life for him as well as all who knew him.

In 2000, Bill’s children surprised their parents with a trip to Ireland. Of course, he kissed the Blarney Stone – not that that was at all necessary for he had already been blessed with the gift of gab! One of the biggest adventures that he and his wife took was a trip down the Mississippi River in a 21 ft. Cuddy. They passed through 52 locks on the way down to St. Louis. Bill always did have sort of a Huckleberry Finn quality about him. Both Bill and Luann enjoyed a long and wonderful retirement. Another blessing to count!

Bill passed away on January 6, 2012 at 77 years old. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Lee Whitehurst and nephew, Mark Whitehurst.

Bill is survived by wife, Luann; daughters Cynthia (Ralph) Duquin of St. Paul, Colleen (Brad Pitt) Ward of St. Paul, and Peggy (Brian Erickson) Ward of St. Paul; sons Michael (Elizabeth) Ward of Palo Alto, CA and Brian (Becki Mastin) Ward of Lakeville; grandchildren Olivia and Isabel Duquin of St. Paul; and sister, Kay of Anoka. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends.

We would like to especially thank the Jim and Marietta Reilly family, the Mike and Connie Reilly family and Dr. Vercellotti and team for the love, friendship and care that they extended to our family throughout the years and within these past few months. Bill loved you all.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Stanchfield Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Cope officiating.

MEMORIAL VISITATION will be held from 5- 7 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Rock Ingebrand Funeral Home of Braham and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

INURNMENT will be in the Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery.

Floyd Allen Sutter rang in the New Year, with a going home celebration in Heaven, on December 31, 2011, following a valiant battle with cancer.
Floyd was born to Grace (Reed) and Allen Sutter on February 25, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the youngest of four children – others being Rodney, Beverly, and Robert.
Floyd attended school in Brooklyn Center, MN, and High School at Minneapolis North. In his early years, he worked (and was fired many times) for his father at a gas station. It was there that he probably fell in love with cars, but his first love was Donna (Gallup). They were united in marriage on January, 10, 1962.
Floyd joined the United States Army in 1960. He was stationed in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1963. Floyd and Donna settled in North Minneapolis. Their daughter Michelle was born to them in 1963. Rebecca was welcomed into the world in 1968. With business aspirations, they moved to Minnetonka, MN, where Floyd, Jr. was born in 1972. In 1977, the family moved to their present home in Braham, MN.
Family trips were important to Floyd, and their travels stretched from the west to east coast of the country as well as through the south. History lessons from Floyd on each trip were always free of charge. No two trips were ever alike. The excitement of site-seeing and running out of gas, (at the most inopportune time), were always in order. As the children grew and began life on their own, Floyd and Donna searched for vacation spots to enjoy each winter. Marco Island, Florida became that paradise. Always looking to mix business and pleasure, they purchased a few homes and began doing vacation rentals. Floyd handled the advertising and business end of it and Donna complimented his efforts with her artistic touches to the homes. Many memories with family and friends visiting them in Marco Island will be forever cherished.
Floyd had many interests and his entrepreneurial ventures bore that out. He obtained a radio operator license and even published and held a patent or two. He bought an airplane and obtained a private pilot’s license (because he didn’t trust flying with someone else in control). He was a carpenter with Palmer Construction, owned a gas station in Minnetonka and a marina and boat repair business. He owned an auction house in Brunswick, then in Braham and Cambridge. He owned discount stores in Cambridge, Braham, Pine City, and Big Lake, MN. His clear passion, however, was cars. He owned many collectible vehicles throughout his life. He owned several car sales lots, first on Broadway Avenue in North Minneapolis, then Brunswick, Braham and Cambridge, MN. The car sales venture was a family affair. The kids helped by washing and detailing cars and driving cars from the auction lot to the car lots. Some family misadventures occurred when the cars the kids were driving broke down along the way and when Donna could not remember what vehicle she had driven to the market on any given day.
Putting all the business ventures and life interests aside, as well as his accomplishments and failings, Floyd had a heart for God that would not be shaken. He was always eager to speak his beliefs – no surprise there – and his love of Christ was always apparent to those that were privileged to be close to him.
Floyd Allen Sutter was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Allen, his brother, Rodney and sister, Beverly. He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna, and his loving children, son; Floyd Sutter, Jr. of Cambridge, daughters; Rebecca (Warren) Trygestad of Madison, MN, and Michelle (Randy) Plageman of Braham, brother; Robert (Joyce) Sutter of Braham, grandchildren; Annika, Grant, and Blake Trygestad, Croix and Matthew Plageman, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and other family and friends also survive
