Gary Lee Byker was born December 27, 1943 in Braham, Minnesota to Garit and Doris (Norman) Byker. He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of three siblings. He attended Ogilvie Public School. He continued to help with the family farming and then got his first job at Land O’ Lakes creamery in Milaca, Minnesota. He went on to work with Ratzloff logging for many years as a shear operator, and then worked for Hjort Construction as a heavy equipment operator.
His hobbies included fishing, traveling, photography and the out-of-doors. It was important for Gary to spend time with his family.
Gary was preceded in death by parents Garit and Doris Byker.
He is survived by his children: two sons Kevin (Michelle Tuey) and Kenny; two daughters Becky (Stephen) and Mandy; grandchildren Andrew, Derrick, Devin and Preston; BreeAnna, Christopher, James, Markece, Alanah and Neveah; great grandson Dominick; extended family Pho and Michelle; extended grandchildren Danielle, Tiffany and Cory; brother Gene (Avis); sister Vonnie (Dwight) Oman; plus many other family and friends.
I have the privilege of working with Gary’s son, Kevin Byker. While I did not know Gary, his son is a fine and inspiring man. As the acorn never falls far from the tree I can only conclude that Gary must have been a fine man too. May he rest in peace and look down on Kevin, and Kevin’s own sons, with great pride.
